Sickle Cell Anemia Support Group

Dear Sickle Cell Community:

The Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation of Oregon is planning to start up a monthly support group for Sickle Cell patients. We have doctors of color (two of whom have SSD) attending, as well as discussions about new pharmaceutical treatments aimed at sickle cell.

We are proposing a meeting every 3rd Thursday of the month, from 7PM to 8PM.

We will be offering $50 each to the first 20 sickle cell patients to sign up and attend at least the first 3 sessions.

Here’s an update on COVID19 vaccinations from Multnomah County:

Two different lines for vaccinations are opening today (2/8) at 9am for seniors 80+ and anyone eligible in Phase 1A:

  • Oregon Convention Center – Phase 1A/Traditional Health Care Workers and seniors 80+
  • Red Economy Lot of the PDX airport – Seniors 80+

Please prioritize those who are or are supporting BIPOC communities, and Elders as supplies are limited.

Use Healthy Practices to Protect Yourself: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue away after use. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or… Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. (This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles,etc.) Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Avoid close contact with people who are sick, even inside your home.
